Review: Dragon School: Prince of Dragons

Dragon School: Prince of Dragons Dragon School: Prince of Dragons by Sarah K.L. Wilson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

By this point in Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon School series my addiction is obvious. I may not be the biggest lover of serial series, but any series with dragons in is sure to win me over. Thus, I continue to dive in, desperately needing answers of how things are going to come together.

Dragon School: First Flight, book one, sucked me completely into the world – it was so much more than I’d expected, and I couldn’t wait to get more. Dragon School: Initiate, book two, sucked me in even deeper – it showed me there was more to the story than I’d originally thought, ensuring I would pick up the next. Dragon School: The Dark Prince, book three, was a very important book in the series – it may not have been my favourite book, but it was vital to the overall story. Dragon School: The Ruby Isles, book four, continues to move things forward in a wonderful way – it may not be my favourite of the stories, but it is another important addition. Dragon School: Sword, book five, was another brilliant read, adding more to the series – it was also the book that reminded me why I was following the series in the first place, pulling me back in after a short hiatus. Dragon School: Dusk Covenant, book six, added plenty of new twists – more than enough to ensure I remained ensnared with the story. Dragon School: First Message, book seven, brought even more to the table – more was added to the storyline, plenty of things leaving me curious as to what would come next. Dragon School: Warring Promises, book eight, left on a serious cliff-hanger – all of the books leave on a cliff-hanger, but this was probably the biggest of them all.

Therefore, I was more than happy to dive into book nine. As with the prior books, Dragon School: Prince of Dragons, was an enjoyable quick read that left me desperate for more. I will be honest and say this is probably my least favourite of the series thus far – in fact, I was feeling generous and rounded this rating up from a three-point-five-star rating – but it did continue to add some goodies to the series. As ever, we were given new information, mystery, action, great characters, and an ending that leaves us more than willing to dive into what comes next.

I think the reason I enjoyed this one less than I have enjoyed the prior books is because of the romance element. It wasn’t in your face, but it was much more obvious than it has been in the other books. I’m really not shipping it, sadly, and I felt as though it pulled away from the other fun stuff that was going on. Sure, plenty happened, but I felt as though the events in this one were not as explosive as things that have occurred in the prior books. I enjoyed things, yes, but I was not blown away by things and had hoped for much more considering how the prior book ended.

Nevertheless, I continue to be excited by this series and cannot wait to dive into the tenth book.

Liz

A bond. A connection. Our difference in color didn’t matter; we were made for each other. A love so strong nothing could come between us—until someone did. Faced with an ultimatum, I made the only decision I could but it was never about skin color, for me. Saying good-bye to him left me in pieces, never to be the same without him.

Now, many years later, I am face to face with the man no one could ever compare to. The feelings I’ve pushed aside for him threaten to boil over. I must fight them. I can’t go back. I need to protect my family, myself.

Israel

Here I am, face to face with the one that got away, the one that abandoned me, the one no other woman could measure up to. I still need to know why she left. Did she leave me for her family money? Was it my skin color? She left by choice, leaving me broken. I’ve never been the same without her.

But now that she’s in front of me, I can’t let her get away again. My slightest touch leaves her covered in goose bumps. Liz is using everything she has not to give in. I hope she will. I need her to be mine, to once again be my Buttercup.

Excerpt

Those little bitty shorts ride up her tight ass as she walks. I want to put my hands on it. Press my cock up against it as I kiss her neck, gathering her hair into one hand and move it over her shoulder.
I swallow hard. I can’t think like that. Not here. Not now.
Not ever.
“Are you done?” Quinn puts one hand on her hip and for a split second I think she knows what I’m thinking.
“Yeah,” I say, picking up my last piece of bacon. I pop it in my mouth and stand, bringing my plate over to the sink. Quinn takes it from me and bends over to let the dogs lick the remnants of eggs. Her ass is in the air right in front of me, and I wonder if she’s doing it on purpose to get a rise out of me.
Because she is, and I have to change my stance thanks to my hardening cock.
“Quinn,” I start, not sure what to say, but I have to say something. “We should talk.”
“About what?” She straightens up and rounds on me, crossing her arms. Her eyes meet mine, drilling in with an intensity I’ve never seen from her. She has little flecks of blue in her brilliant green irises that I haven’t noticed before.
I move closer, stepping over Boots. If I say it now, there will be no more wondering. No more waiting. She’ll either take me or leave me, but at least I’ll know. I can kiss her now or move on. Somehow, someway.
It’s not hard. All I have to do is open my mouth and let the words come out, speaking with unwavering vehemence as I tell her how I feel.
Yet, I can’t.
Standing here looking at Quinn, with her messy hair, thick sweater hiding her perfect tits, and dogs circling around her feet in hopes of more food, I feel more nervous that I did the first time I stood in front of a patient on the operating table with a scalpel in my hand.
“Archer?”
“Your wrist. How’s your wrist?”
“My wrist?” she questions, nostrils flaring. She lets out a sigh and picks up the plate the dogs licked clean. “Same as yesterday. I ordered a posture brace on Amazon to help with my shoulder pain, not that you care.”
I’d offer to massage her shoulders, but the moment my hands land on her back, all bets are off.
Suddenly, Quinn advances. She’s inches away, arms crossed tightly over her chest and head tipped up to mine.
“That’s not what you wanted to talk about.” She pulls her bottom lip between her teeth and cocks her head. “Is it?”
“Quinn.”
“Don’t Quinn me, Archer Jones. You know as well as I do you weren’t going to talk to my about my wrist.” She lets out a frustrated breath and lets her arms fall to the sides. Her fingers brush against me, and my skin feels electric just from that small touch.
Goddammit.
“But fine. I’ll play that game. Here.” She holds up her hand. “Examine me, doctor.”
Her words are meant to mock, but they do the opposite. I’ll examine every inch of her body. Twice. Three times. Just to be certain nothing was missed.
I take her wrist and tug her forward, knocking her off balance so she falls against me, both her hands flat on my chest. I slip my other hand around her waist, stopping at the small of her back. Quinn’s lips part and she gasps.
Instead of struggling to get away, she relaxes in my arms, and nothing has ever felt more right.
Even though this is wrong.
Quinn is in my arms, back arched and tits against my chest. My cock is hard, pulsing against the confines of my jeans. Thunder booms above and Quinn shivers.
“Do you still want to talk?” My voice is gruffer than I intend, but the harshness does something for Quinn. She slides her hands up my chest and around my shoulders.
“There are other things I’d rather do,” she says, voice breathy. Fuck. She’s killing me. She brushes her hips against mine, feeling my erection through my pants. “And I think you would too.”
I do. I so fucking do and she knows it.
“Archer,” she says softly and hearing her whisper my name is almost enough to make me come right then and there. I slowly bring my face down to hers. I’m going to kiss her. After all this time, it’s finally fucking happening.

Review: Vampire Fight Club

Vampire Fight Club Vampire Fight Club by Larissa Ione
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m not the biggest lover of short stories and novellas, I much prefer digging deep into the full-length novels of any given series, yet there are some cases where I just have to read such stories. Larissa Ione is an author who has me more than willing to dive into her shorter tales, more than happy to read the short stories that accompany the full-length novels I adore so much.

Since I picked up the first book in the Demonica series, I have desperately been needing more. It’s one of my favourite paranormal romance series, and the Lords of Deliverance spinoff is promising to be just as enjoyable. Vampire Fight Club is a nice little addition to the Demonica universe, taking place in the Lords of Deliverance timeline.

I will be completely honest and say this wasn’t quite a full four-star rating. Mostly, this is a reflection of how I prefer longer stories – and how, at the end of this one, I was left wishing we’d been given more scenes so that I could have fallen ever deeper in love with another Larissa Ione tale. However, as the rating was so close to being a four-star rating, I had to round it up.

Although this takes place in the Lords of Deliverance timeline, it is not a pivotal story to the overall arc. It makes references to what is going on in the universe, yet the story stands just fine on its own. It is quick and fun, with all of the author’s usual trademarks – some action, some steam, great characters, and a storyline that leaves you more than curious about how the events come together.

Without a doubt, this was another great read from Larissa Ione. I’ve seen mention that Base Instincts, another Larissa Ione short story I’m extremely interested in reading, is linked to this one, and I cannot wait to see how it plays out.

Review: The Marquess' Angel

The Marquess' Angel The Marquess' Angel by Julia Sinclair
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Marquess’ Angel is the first book in Julia Sinclair’s Hart and Arrow series, and it was a great debut novel that has me more than willing to see where the rest of this series goes. With so many books planned for this series, I’m more than a little bit curious to see how things will play out.

Before I start writing up my views towards this one, I wish to make a quick disclaimer. Although I have given this book a four-star rating, it is more of a three-point-five-star rating. However, it was a strong three-point-five-star read, thus I opted to round up. I more than believe the books will grow stronger the deeper into the series we go, and this was a solid enough start to the series – hence, the rounding up.

The Hart and Arrow series promises a Romeo and Juliet style hatred between families, set within regancy England. Being a fan of historical romance, I was more than intrigued by the promise of such a series. Not to mention, the synopsis of The Marquess’ Angel sounded like a lot of fun.

At first, I was a little bit unsure about this one. We’re thrown straight into a story that grabbed my attention, yet it took me longer than I would have liked before I was sucked in. The first few chapters I spent being intrigued, rather than being in love with the story. Therefore, I certainly recommend giving this book a bit of time to grip you. Once it does grip you, once things do start to move, the story is a lot of fun.

There is plenty throughout to keep you interested. The characters are so much fun – both the main characters and the side characters. I adored the relationship between our main characters, watching how things developed between them, watching as they grew throughout. I also really enjoyed the insights we got into the side characters, and cannot wait to find out more about the story that is hiding there. The story was also a lot of fun – there was plenty happen throughout, more than enough to keep you entertained. It didn’t quite have the level of action and drama I like in these kinds of stories, but there was more than enough to keep me entertained, even if some things were a bit predictable. The romance was also really enjoyable – as I mentioned, I really enjoyed watching the relationship bloom between the characters. There wasn’t as much steam in this one as I had expected – in fact, it was extremely tame compared to a lot of historical romance I have read (I have a habit of jumping into bodice rippers) – yet it was an enjoyable story.

I’m hoping the next book goes even deeper into the hatred between the two families, as I feel as though it was never quite explained in full. There is such potential there, and I would love to get more details rather than it just being an element that is constantly pointed towards.

Overall, The Marquess’ Angel was a fun read, and I’m more than ready to dive into Julia Sinclair’s next Hart and Arrow release.

We were supposed to be strangers. It was supposed to be a one-time thing.
Now the mob wants me to be her bodyguard, and make sure no one touches her.
Oops.

The Marines taught me to fight and to be a man. But life as an enforcer for the mob taught me to get my hands dirty. There’s no job too rough for me. That is, until I meet the new assignment.

Fiery red hair, sweet curves that that melt me, and a sass that makes my blood run hot. I’m supposed to be Quinn’s bodyguard. The only problem?

We’ve met before.

Oh, we’ve met alright – one night, no names, nothing held back, when I claimed her as my own. Rough, hard – exactly how she wanted it. Her hair wrapped around my fist and her moans etched across my brain.

My boss, the vicious head of the Moretti crime family, thinks she’s his. He thinks he can lock her away in some tower like a little bird in a glass cage and claim her as his own.

He’s about to learn how wrong he is.

Because Quinn might be beholden to him, but she belongs to me. I’ll guard that body alright, and I’ll burn down heaven and hell to make sure they all know that she’s mine.

Please note that while a connected storyline, each of the Dirty Bad Things books are completely standalone stories centered around one couple, with no cliffhangers or spoilers.

Dirty, filthy, and oh-so-sweet, with an utterly obsessed alpha hero, explosive insta-love, and enough kindle-melting steam to make you sweat. Get ready to get wrong in the right kind of way. As with all my books, this one is safe, with no cheating (trust me), and a HEA guaranteed.
